Yesterday I shared how fasting and prayer can affect world events click here for Fasting & Shaping History. Today I'd like to talk about the two kinds of fasting described in Isaiah 58. One is a fast motivated by pride and religion. The second is the fast that God chooses.
A religious fast that is motivated primarily by pride and works yields works that God takes no notice in. Their prayers for justice go unheard and their affliction is unseen by God. Why?
'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?' "In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
And exploit all your laborers. Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness. You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high. NKJV
God won't hear because the purpose of the fast primarily motivated by pride. Pride blinds a person from God's righteousness therefore their prayers and actions are misdirected. They are not right. Their prayer and actions do not line up with God's word. This is evidenced by how they exploit or take advantage of people and secondly misdirected justice. Wicked is the root word of wicker like in wicker furniture. It's called wicker because it is twisted. Wicked means twisted or evil. Therefore justice is misguided and correction is brought in wickedness. James sheds some light as to why this is.
Only an hour after I posted Part 2 of What's God Saying for 2014 I saw a sign and a wonder God gave to mark the word about how God intends His light to shine in darkness. It was two super moons (1st & the 30th) that occur in January.
Talk about a light that shines in darkness. Super moons occur when they are closest to the earth. Hence it is lighter in the dark. Truly a light shined in darkness. As I considered Luke 21:25-28 recognizing God uses the sun, moon and stars to communicate in the latter days I asked Him for greater insight into what these two super moons meant.
That's when I heard a "harvest moon is arising." A harvest moon occurs in the fall on the Saturday nearest the fall equinox. Its a full moon opposite the sun. The farmers call it a harvest moon because it provides more light so they can harvest late into the night (click here for more explanation).
God used this sign to mark His word I shared in Part 2 of What's God Saying for 2014; " We will see more decisions for Christ this year as we draw nearer the dawning of a 3rd Great Awakening."
God is calling forth the sons of light and giving us a harvest moon so we can work late into the night. Why? Because the harvest is not complete. There is still much work to do.
It's time to prepare for harvest my friends. January is not the fall. It's not time for harvest. But Amos 9:11 teaches us that one of the keys to the harvest is the restoration of David's tabernacle (24/7 prayer, praise and worship in a city). As it is restored (ie. through strategies such as Operation Rolling Thunder) we will see the plowman overtake the reaper. The prayer movement that has been establishing houses of prayer throughout the world has been one of the tools God has used to restore David's tabernacle. Therefore, harvesting and planting will begin to overlap. We will harvest in season and out of season. In fact now, every season is a season to harvest.
Matthew 9:37-38 (Luke 10:2)
Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." NKJV
This harvest is so huge we need all hands on deck. We need to prepare to let our nets (plural) down so we can receive this harvest for our Lord. This is why we've been seeking to connect churches in cities through our strategies for years. Join us in praying for but also in harvesting souls this year for our Lord Jesus Christ. Let Him receive the just reward for His suffering.
History is in the hands of the intercessors. Throughout the ages fasting has been a powerful tool to intensify prayer. Prayer and fasting empowers a person to change their personal history and a people to change their national history. For example:
Jesus taught us to fast and pray too. He just admonished us not to do it as the hypocrites did. (Matt. 6:16-18).
The early Church also practiced regular fasting and prayer. The Apostle Paul when describing his ministry in 1 Corinthians 6:3-10 said in verse that he was involved in "watchings" and "fastings." Watching refers to abstaining from sleep and fasting refers to abstaining from food.
On January 2-8 our Church is entering into a 7 day fast to kick off the new year. We expect to change history by being one of those lights that shines in darkness in 2014. Click here for God's word about a light shined in darkness in 2014. Here are some practical guidelines and lessons learned about how to fast.
I saw a post by Dr. Lance Wallnau of LanceLearning today on Facebook. With his permission I am reprinting his post below.
Why? Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
Here is a summary of the major themes I see:
Lance's Post - 9/17/2013
Last night at mid-night I led our local church in our day of 24/7 prayer by taking the first watch. We are working with other local congregations in our community to raise up a canopy of 24/7 prayer 365 days out of the year. That's the goal. We discovered through Operation Rolling Thunder that if churches in a community cooperate together we can do this quickly.
One of the benefits is God's voice. He loves to communicate with us. The challenge is, we often have a difficult time hearing what He is saying. The question is, how can we position ourselves better to hear what the Lord is saying and see what He is doing or trying to communicate?
As I began my watch last night I was actually surprised when the Lord began to talk to me about how a watchman can position himself with the best vantage point for my watch. Higher is better. The higher you are the further you can see. So how can a person who is going to stand watch position themselves with the highest vantage point?
Psalm 147:6 The Lord lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.
The way to get higher is to go lower! As I contemplated that the Lord led me to worship! Here are some of the acts of worship that involve humility.
These are some of the ways that we humble ourselves. Humility involves our recognition of our frailty, weakness and limitations and our utter dependence upon the Lord's love, goodness and mercy. The humility also comes with a strength and confidence. It is confident in the Lord's love, ability and power. Our boast and our confidence is in our Lord!
Therefore, as you prepare for your watch make it your goal to acquire the best vantage point for that watch! Aim low to go high!
James 4:10 - Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Picture taken by intercessor at the conference
Dr. Emmanuel Ziga of Grace for All Nations click here hosted the Hour of Prayer Conference June 13-16. I was honored to speak during a few of the sessions regarding the restoration of David's tabernacle.
During the conference I shared some of my experiences and the fruit of the ORT prayer strategy which is designed to establish 24/7 prayer in a city while also forming councils representing all 7 spheres of society and the five fold ministry. This strategy is based upon a revelation and a goal to see David's tabernacle restored today. During the course of my ministry I shared how God had marked this message with more than 70+ signs and wonders along with references to Psalm 18:6-14 and Isaiah 22:22 in two sessions on Friday. I also introduced the concept of an ARC (apostolic resource center) which hosts and facilitates 24/7 prayer, praise and worship in a city.
Before my last session Saturday evening on June 15th the GFNA team was involved in heavy intercession at the Westin Hotel in Bellevue. One of the intercessors looked out and saw the sun with two halo's around it and took the picture. Everyone in the meeting witnessed this.
Sign & Wonder Training
That evening they shared this with me which provided a marvelous opportunity for some "just in time training" on signs and wonders.
There was the sun with two rings of light or rainbows around it. These are called sun dogs and also 22 degree circle halos (King 5 News called is a double son halo)!. I know this because the Lord had done this before a few years ago after we shared the scriptures presented through ORT in Bellingham Washington.
The two halos around the sun pointed to the Word. Now don't be overly enamored by the signs. God uses signs just the way we use signs. Signs point to something else which is the main thing or contain a special message. In this case the signs pointed to and reinforced an emphasis on God's word.
God bore witness with these signs as 2 Samuel 22 refers to the same portion of scripture as Psalm 18:6-14 and Isaiah 22:22 deals with the "key of David." God used the sign to point to this message being brought forth during "The Hour of Prayer Conference." To hear the full message I encourage you to contact GFANA for the CDs from the conference. It is powerful. My heavenly Father wants, desires, longs for churches to do what David did in Zion in their city. But it gets even better.
The next day I checked King 5 News website and found this.
Rep Matt Shea
I met Representative Matt Shea in Spokane WA in 2010 while I was mobilizing the Church in that region through Operation Rolling Thunder. I liked Matt right away. He is an army officer, a combat veteran, an attorney and a Christian. I like all that, but what I truly like is that Matt entered the political arena to serve. He did not check his morals and convictions at the door of political expediency. From my observation, truth is something that is important to him and he is not afraid to stand up with boldness and courage to fight for the truth.
I remember the oath I took to defend the constitution of these United States and from watching him over the last three years, I'd say he remembered that oath too. It also appears like he has actually read it and is defending it rather than undermining it and violating it for political expediency. I appreciate the moral conviction and courage he has been demonstrating. Now, I'd like to share with you some sage advice he just offered in his recent blog
Heist Turns Self In
Carl and Brenda Krames have been overseeing the ORT strategy in Gainesville since 2009. Last year they began to form the government council in their Transformation Task Force by reaching out to law enforcement in their city and county. One of the prayer targets was cold cases.
In March I reported in the following article "Gainesville FL - ORT Strategy the Police Chief & Decreasing Crime!" the long term effects of concentrated prayer on crime. One month later I reported in "Strategic Prayer Breaks Cold Case Wide-open - Serial Murderer Apprehended" how they played a role in the case of a serial killer.
On May 3, 2013 a fugitive who had been on the run for 11 years happened to turn herself into authorities here in their county. Click here for Long-missing Pennsylvania mom surrenders in Gainesville.
Why did this fugitive just happen to turn herself in here? Well, we really don't know. But, I can't help but think their targeted prayers requested by law enforcement officials on cold cases had something to do with it.
This is the fruit of continual prayer inviting God's abiding presence.
We Need to Buy a Clue!
America is embroiled in many public scandals today! The expose is growing. The Washington Post has consolidated some of these in "Mr. Obama and his scandals." It lists among other things how that the "Justice Department" leaks documents to attack a whistle blower who expose the "Fast and Furious" debacle, the IRS targeting conservative political and religious groups, the Justice Department violating the First Amendment snooping into Associated Press and Fox News reporters seeking to intimidate, the Benghazi atrocity which is worse than Watergate, and.... the list goes on.
I submit that this is the fruit of more than 50 years of a growing rejection of the Lord and His moral commands. In 1963 prayer was banned by our Supreme Court and one year later the court banned bible reading which was followed as school after school removed the 10 commandments.
President Harry S Truman popularized the saying "the buck stops here." This administration acts like the "buck stops there, and there and there..." anywhere but here. Blame shifting and avoiding responsibility seem to be the protocol of the day.
Here is a dollar for those who need to buy a clue! The rejection and erosion of our relationship with The Lord has undermined our moral fabric. No system, I repeat, NO SYSTEM can survive and function without character. The family unit can not survive. Capitalism will not work. A Justice Department run by people with no morals will not uphold laws. The IRS will not stay within the confines of the law when it is run by people with no internal moral boundaries. Here is another secret for those who believe socialism or communism is a better system. They won't work without moral boundaries either. What do you think led to the downfall of the Soviets?
Judgment began in the household of God as scandal after scandal has been revealed and I have not doubt it will continue as our Lord cleans house. But now this trend has spilled over into other spheres of society.
Pastors Mark & Nancy Hosted NDP in Renton
May 2nd was the National Day of Prayer. It was hosted by two KLI pastors; Mark and Nancy Moore. They also serve as the CONECTers for Operation Rolling Thunder in Renton/Kent south King County. This is also the first day of Phase 1 of the Operation Rolling Thunder Strategy.
Operation Rolling Thunder (ORT) is a strategy that gets one church to take one day of 24/7 prayer each month. Once we get 31 churches in a city working together we have our city covered with 24/7 prayer all year long. The effect of God's abiding presence in a city is incredible (click here). KLI has committed to taking the 1st day of every month and we've been joined by 4 other churches so far (click here).
Today, Pastors Gary and Tandi are leading the prayer this day as Celebration
Church takes this day of 24/7 prayer. (click here for state prayer targets). The Renton Reporter did a great article (click here) on the National Day of Prayer event that Mark and Nancy oversaw yesterday. Click read more for access to the slide show and some videos from the event.
