Many who claim to be Christian in my nation have an escapist mentality. They can't wait to get out of here. You know, beam me up Jesus! Because of that they tend to avoid getting involved in ...... this LIFE.
Jesus called us to be "salt and light." He commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel. He taught us to pray that His kingdom would manifest itself on earth.
One of the reasons there is so much darkness and corruption in politics is because so many who call themselves Christian's retreated from that arena. I want to challenge all who call themselves Christians to not retreat but rather engage in every sphere of society which includes politics; the governing of this nation which God put within our hands to steward. I applaud those who do and I admonish those (25 million DID NOT participate in the last election) who do not.
If there is an absence of light, it is the Church's (minister's) fault. I thought this Facebook post and my response would give you a little insight into how I practice applying scripture in making decisions as it pertains to civil government.
The Presidential Debate Framed the Post
Facebook post: I can't watch anymore tonight. I recorded it, so I can digest it in bits. This live fact check just might help me! 😳.
Tim: Just check the political persuasion of your fact checkers!
Her reply: Both of them morally disgust me...so for me, I'll just have to pick the least of the two evils. That is MY opinion on this Presidential race. I don't usually share anything on my political views, so this will be the extent of it.
Tim: I know! As A Christian I look at....
Deuteronomy 28 & Levitucus 18, 20 & 26 (scriptures describe blessings and consequences of a nation who obeys or does not obey God word (i.e. Life, shedding innocent blood, marriage relationships, Israel, etc....)). The scriptures I mentioned show a pattern. We are suffering a growing number of the consequences over the last few decades.
Then I look at the party platform, then the candidate and then the issues. The Democratic platform as it pertains to life and marriage have views contrary to God's word. Then like in my state I've a Congressman who allows public opinion to shape his values therefore, he changes his view on these moral issues contrary to his party platform (Republican support life & traditional marriage).
Then I look at personal character. I can tell you that as a minister, as challenging as he is, I'd rather have a personality like Trump in my church to deal with in that he says pretty much what he thinks. He doesn't try to hide things like Hillary who is a pathological liar and deceiver. I'm never surprised to find those who habitually lie support the murder of innocent unborn children based on this scripture.
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.)
I marvel at how consistently I've found this portion of scripture to apply. Habitual liars often practice and or support polices and practices (ie. abortion, euthanasia) that condone the murder of the innocent.
Then I bring my views on things like 1st and 2nd Amendments, etc. Bottom line the system of government in the US is fine. It is the character of people in both parties that has declined and corruption has grown.
I'm praying for a great awakening and an exposure and removal of all corruption in our system of government. I'm praying for the truth to come out for Proverbs 6 shares 7 things God hates and is an abomination. Abominations are acts that destroy nations. One of those is lying. And right now we have a culture of lying that is permeating our culture evident in civil government. God help us.
