In war a wise general chooses the land they fight upon. It is an important factor in developing a strategy. Sometimes the natural geography provides for a natural defense or provides them the high ground. If the land is not suitable then the general moves their troops or changes the landscape to make it suitable by digging trenches or building mounds of earth called bulwarks. There is a battle for truth today. In Washington State the traditional role of marriage is under attack. (Protect Marriage Washington) If the battle is for truth then language is important. Antichrist forces have launched a campaign to capture the hearts and minds of people and this battle has been well underway for over 40+ years. They've sought to change the lay of the land to create a battle field upon which they desire to fight this spiritual war by changing the language to introduce subtle confusion. Scott Lively said in an article hosted on www.DefendtheFamily.com that "He who defines the terms controls the debate -- and by extension, public opinion." Strategic leaders understand that. For example, do you remember an embarrassed president in the 90's trying change the definition of "is" in order to avoid a scandal. His goal was to define a term in order to control public opinion. The same strategy is at work in the current attack on traditional marriage in Washington State. Until the 20th century gay was used to refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy." It was not until the 20th century that it began to be used to define homosexuality. Transgender is another example of a word introduced in the 1970's to suggest that you could change your gender that you were born with. Its a new word that introduces a "new reality" that is a lie. But remember, he who defines the terms controls the debate and by extension, public opinion. Recently our legislature "redefined" marriage to include same sex couples. First, here is a principle. What you create, you have the authority and right to legislate. This civil government created less than 140 years ago has no right to change an institution that was created by God and given to the Church to steward. Secondly the definition is just wrong. It is words and definitions like this that are being used to create the battle ground for marriage today. It is my opinion that we, the Church, have abdicated our position on the field of this battle. We have slowly retreated for a variety of reasons. Some are tired of fighting this fight alone, others have an escapist mentality, others have become apathetic, and others just don't care. Why I support Initiative 1192 I learned in the Naval War College that offense is the only way you get victory. Defense only avoids or delays defeat. He who is on offense has the "initiative" and can choose the time and place of battle. The adversary can only respond. Initiative 1192 is an offensive move. It is the first step to reclaiming the high ground in this spiritual war. Initiative 1192 is this: Marriage = one man + one woman It has been filed for the purpose of reclaiming this definition of marriage. We encourage you and your friends to sign this petition so that we can bring the issue to the citizens for a vote! We need 300,000 signatures by July 6. We must PRAY and OBEY. I have offered my services and prayer strategy (www.ORTPrayer.org) to this coalition for marriage. I strongly urge you join us in mobilizing your Church and city to pray as well as to register Christians to vote (only about 30% participate in elections - click here to register) and distribute petitions (click here to download a petition).
