![]() Psalm 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. NKJV Psalm 2 is such a powerful Messianic portion of scripture that speaks of Jesus. I love it! But verse 12 always bugged me. It seemed out of place to me. That is, until I looked at what the Hebrew words meant and then I realized just how limited our English language was to fully express all our Lord was trying to say. Once I saw what God was really saying it not only made more sense, it provides marvelous insight as to how to be equipped for spiritual war. The word translated "kiss" in verse 12 means.... the idea of fastening; to kiss, to attach or equip with weapons. It's translated many places in scripture as kiss but when Jehoshaphat went out to war it says in 2 Chronicles 17:17:
"And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand." KJV Armed men is the exact same word as kiss. Jesus wants us to get up close and personal with Him so He can equip us for spiritual war. That intimacy (agape love) serves as the belt of truth (Eph. 6:14) from which we hang our spiritual weapons from. So why would our Lord be angry if we did not do that? It's because He has made us to be overcomers. He loves us and desires us to overcome every challenge the Devil would throw at us. Jesus came to give life and give it more abundantly while Satan came to kill, steal and destroy. It upsets Him when His people are defeated and hurt through ignorance or apathy. Think about how many areas the adversary of our soul attacks us in the area of intimacy. It begins in our thought life and as the thought is put into action it manifests itself through practices like fornication, adultery, pornography, homosexuality, ect. Sadly the practitioners expose themselves and others to consequences that hurt themselves and others. It includes but is not limited to broken relationships, abortion, betrayal, abandoned children, children growing up without a parent, and a host of diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, venereal disease, HIV and AIDS just to name a few. The suffering is horrible and often hurts the people closest to them. The health statistics alone are overwhelmingly bad for those who practice such things. This is the sad result from practicing intimacy outside the bounds of God's design. I wish this were recorded so you could hear my voice inflection and tone. In no way do I mean this in any condemning way. I share this will much love, compassion and sadness for those who've been bound or hurt through these deceptions of our adversary that provide a false intimacy. Jesus came to give us life. Those seek a pseudo intimacy do so because they are trying to fill a void that only the love of Jesus Christ can fulfill. Christ can trust those who spend time in His presence. For those who do, He equips with spiritual weapons such as:
So kiss the Son, spend intimate time with Him in His word and in prayer, praise and worship. Get equipped fully and put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). If you do not know Jesus and would like to be introduced to the only one that can fill that deep void in your life, let us know. Comments are closed.
