![]() By John Anderson, member of our Apostolic Council of Elders, October 31, 2022 - John and I were talking the other day about the arrows of the LORD as we discussed practical things we could do at KLI to act upon this truth. I loved some of the things he shared. Here's a snippet of what he shared! A Strategic Weapon in God's Armory John says arrows are a strategic weapon in God's armory. "he shall eat up the nations, his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces and pierce them through with his arrows." [Num 24.8], and "I will spend my arrows on them." [Deut 32.23]. Not all arrows are literal wooden shafts with sharp tips. Psalm 18.14 declares "And he sent out his arrows and scattered them; he flashed forth lightnings and routed them." Ezekiel 5.16 reveals that sometimes famine is named as an arrow of the Lord. Even in the 21st century, where guns, rockets and IEDs prevail in battle, the Lord has appointed arrows for our armory. Why Psalm 127.4 reveals, "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children[fn] of one's youth." So God likens people unto the arrows of the LORD. The picture begins to become even clearer when we understand God's word. Paul opens the door even more by illuminating arrows as weapons for daily use by defining sin in archery terms (gr. Amartia - to miss the mark), and declaring "any action that you take without faith is sin."[Rom 14.23]. This begs a question. How is faith related to arrows, and to missing the mark? Consider faith, hope and love as elements of an illustration. Paul writes that "these three things remain: faith, hope and love."[1 Cor 13.13] Galatians 5.6 reveals that "faith works by love." And Hebrews 11.1 relates faith and hope, saying "Faith is the substance of things that are hoped for...." Thus, love becomes the motive for actions taken by faith, and faith is aimed at a target called hope.
May we, rooted and grounded in love, take bold action in faith that glorifies God by bring "things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" into our reality. This faith pleases God! Launch your arrows! Tim's Thoughts Thanks John. You know, Jesus used many parables to describe various elements of the kingdom. It's the same here. Each brings a facet. Love is the bow, faith the arrow and hope is the target. I love it. So what have we done to help equip you?
